Canon G15 Remote Live View

Hi Everyone,

I have a question and can't find the answer anywhere quickly on other forum threads here.
I want to buy a Canon G15 but I need to be sure I can create a remote live view first.
With my present camera (an old Powershot) I can insert an A/V cable pin into the camera and the other end of the cable into my hand held TFT screen via RCA type connectors. When I turn the camera on the camera live view is shown on the hand held screen and not the camera's LCD screen. If I leave the camera for a minute it goes into "sleep" mode. I then half-press the shutter button and the camera wakes up again and I get live view back on the hand held screen.
I want to know if the G15 also behaves in the same way if I connect it to my hand held screen via the camera's USB or A/V(?) port.
I want to use a wired remote control to activate the shutter.

And also if this would work on the G1X as I'm not completely decided on which camera to get....;-)a
Thanks in advance for any help on this!

Andy

It looks like you can do this with either the G15 or G1 X. See page 243 of the G15 user guide, and the note at bottom of page. The G1 X information for this capability is on pages 186/187 in it's user guide, with the same note in the middle of page 187. I don't own either camera, so you will have to try it for your self.

You can download a PDF user guide for each camera on the PowerShot website. Click to open each camera's link, then the link to their Brochures & Manuals, then the user guide to download.

Thanks for the tip Dennis, I didn't think to see if manuals were available online.
Looks like both camera's will do what I need them to do.
Now I just need to choose which camera..... :)

Perhaps you got someone that doesn't understand what you want and what their own G15 user guide says. Here's a screen shot from their own manual;

At the bottom of the page it says you can. Perhaps you should call them back?

You're right Dennis, it does read as though it's possible.
There must be someone here with a G15, A/V cable and a TV who could test it out.
Anyone? Please? ;)
