My camera fell (yah 5diii and 50L on it) about 3 feet. I feel so lucky, usually my flash is not on it, but that day it was. I had set it down on the desk and shortly after it just rolled back onto the hard floor.

The flash being on it obviously took the impact and thankfully no damage to camera or lens. The flash, I'm not sure how exactly to say it broke but in the bottom theres 4 screws holding on the bottom plate. It's like the plate just ripped out of those screws but there's no cracks, nothing. It's really like the holes the screws go in just loosened and it slipped off with screws still in the unit. I simply removed the screws from the flash body and tried to put the plate back on and re screw the screws. The screws aren't tight enough to hold it now. It appears glue may have been put there at one point to hold the plate.

So I guess i just need to know if I can glue it. I'm afraid to glue it too tight b/c if I need to get in there I won't be able to. But I'm not sure what else to do. The flash still works fine. I just need this part to stay together. I'm not sure about tape….

HEre are a few pics, Thanks in advance.

Hmm. Are there any small electronics around that you can take small screws from? Maybe a slightly bigger size so it fits like it was originally intended too?

hmm that's not a bad idea i am looking at it now and I'm not sure the little part the screw goes in will accommodate a bigger screw. It's like the hole on the plate around the screw broke with everything, even the screws still in tact in the hole. Tomorrow ill take the screws out and see about the possibility of larger ones.

Is that a 580 or 430? If it's a 580, I'd probably have Canon repair it.

580 ex ii. but I bought it used here. so will canon still fix it? again I want to stress it works great and I have used it for a birthday party and portraits since. The only problem was when I originally picked it up one of the wires was disconnected but I just put them back in the slot and it was fine.

But I just want to fix it without superglue preferably

Oh, they won't fix it for free even it was under warranty since you dropped it. However, it will still be worth something secondhand if you get it fixed by Canon.

A new foot isn't expensive to buy as spare part and replace.

The flash is designed so the foot will break away and protect the camera and the main part of the flash.

Trying to repair with other screws, glue etc might remove the protective functionality making a later accident more costly.

Oh great news, well I wouldn't mind paying canon and I also wouldn't mind buying it used myself! I will look around. That totally makes sense that it's meant to break, b/c i have never seen anything break so perfectly lol
