The digital picture lens image quality tool

Does anyone know the distance that they use for the lens image quality tool when testing lenses? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the site.

It would depend on a lens by lens basis because a wide angle lens would have to be placed much closer compared to a telephoto.

I'd venture to say pretty far out though, because the following lenses are absolute dogs close to MFD, but are fine on his crops:
- 70-200 f/4L IS
- 50 f/1.2L

He himself has also said that the 17-55 IS underperforms on the tests because it's very close to the chart
