Anything that requires Moneygram/wire transfer for this type of a transaction is almost always a scam. Also, OP mentions that the info came off of a *closed* Facebook page; which means the chances are very high that the account was closed because it was hijacked by these chuckleheads.

So, yes, definitely a scam

Interesting point, one comes onto POTN with a good news story - it is a relatively big forum, if it's not instantly shot down in flames, 5 or 10 suckers might fall for it. Then Someone in Nigeria has a nice Christmas!

You have to laugh though - what a cretin.
Everyone knows The UK must have like the most outrageous rip off prices in the World!
Import from the UK into the States - Hell I would bite your arm off to buy at US prices!
You couldn't even buy the 70-200 L F2.8 IS USM II for that in UK £ss

Also he states they have this great deal; and buy direct from Canon - but then goes on to proclaim its shipped via England! Well that's a nice shortcut!
He also says he is an approved main dealer in the US for all the kit - so why no office in the US ???
God if people actually make money being a con artist when there are so many holes in his scam, GOD its tempting to get into the CON business - spend some time concocting a sales pitch without glaring holes - retire in 2 years!

I also see

Payment will be made via Money Gram wire transfer or western union money transfer, we have a registered account terminal linkd to our company address with this 2 wire transfer agent.

so its seems to me you've lost the protection that comes with a credit card purchase.

As soon as you see this line you know it's a scam: "Payment will be made via Money Gram wire transfer or western union money transfer"

Run don't walk away from this one.

Hey guys,
I'm the OP, and I just joined this forum for the very purpose of checking this out. I'm an amateur photographer considering going pro and in the market for a pro camera system to start out with. I have never encountered this kind of deal or language before, it sounded too good to be true, so I thought I'd run it by you guys. I don't know why that should make me suspicious. Naive, yes, but nothing more than that. I was caught off-guard by seeing this deal on Facebook, which I thought was a scam-free zone. Anyway, thanks for pointing out all the signs indicating that a scam is in the making. I'll know for next time. You've all been very helpful and I appreciate it!

I think it's sad that you're rolling your eyes. The post was a request for help from people more knowledgeable about these kinds of offers. If you consider it beneath you, then stay out of it. No need for snide remarks. Others may find this thread useful and learn from it.

Golden rule - if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

If you are inexperienced in buying things off the internet, stick with large well-known sellers (Amazon, B&H, Adorama in this example) and run away quickly from "steals" like the one you stumbled on.
