Hey guys! Would love some advice.

I purchased a 135mm f/2L second hand off Ebay and I just received it today. Barely taken any photos with it but something is already standing out as being odd. The bottom part of the lens with the focus limiter seems to be loose. It makes a 'wobbly' noise if I shake it slightly. Noticeable when attached to the camera too. I'm assuming it's not normal because I've never had a lens do this? Also the Focus ring doesn't seem a smooth as it should be, but I'm not too concerned about that.

Not sure if I should contact the seller and sort out a return or something. I would be disappointed to give it back, but it was a lot of money after all. Does this sound like a serious issue?

Well, I can't honestly say I understand what your are describing, but whatever it is is not normal. The focus limiter switch is screwed on to the body, but there is nothing else there to be lose. Since the lens does not have IS, nothing moves or feels lose when moving the lens (I didn't shake it like a maraca though :D)

The only thing that even gives a bit or makes any possible slight noise at all is the focus ring on mine and then only if I try to rotate it 90deg to the way it is supposed to be rotated. It's not sealed, so it doesn't surprise me that there is a tiny bit of movement there.

Also I just checked and the manual focus is smooth. As smooth as anything else I have at least (maybe not comparing to a Zeiss?).

Yes I took that video. I didn't know how else to explain it.

Well I contacted the Ebay seller because I'm confident this is not normal and needs to be fixed, but he is not being nice about it. Won't give me a partial refund to cover the cost of repair and claims the lens works and was as described and if I have a problem, make a claim through paypal...

I'm not sure now if I should just keep it and deal with the looseness or make a claim and have to send it back and most likely be out the postage for it as well =\ The photos do seem to be fine from it, though am yet to test it properly.

I know I've seen this before, specifically with the 135 f/2. It is a somewhat known problem.

And IIRC there was another video where someone was un-boxing a new 135, to replace his old one that had this same problem (and he showed the problem but I can't find the video).

How long have you had it and can you link to the listing? If it doesn't mention a rattle or loose barrel I would file a claim. Make sure you take pictures of the lens before sending it back.
