My default is "don't mess with my photo". That's exposure 0, shadows 5, contrast 25, brightness 50, saturation 0.

I favor the defaults that were coded in for my camera (but that's a G5 and you are only concerned about the 20D).

However, philosophically, I would think the same approach would apply to all cameras. The reason I favor the defaults (what you get when you do "Reset Camera RAW Defaults") is that this seems to come very close to the image that will come out of the camera when set to JPG instead of RAW. In other words, I could believe that the ACR designers tried their best to hack the Canon algorithms that create the JPG format output.

What I have said here only applies to ACR 2.4, because in 3.3 there are optional Auto settings on each control that can make for a completely different image when turned on. In other words, the "Camera RAW Defaults" for a given camera are apparently assuming that you turn off those Auto check boxes in version 3.3.

I'm with tim, same settings. For WB, I use, "As shot."

On the WB, I often experiment with the dropper tool to find a better setting than the 10D comes up with. It can be signficantly different.

I've done quite a lot with the ACR white ballance tool for yesterday, since the light changed often and I usually don't think to change it when i'm so busy. I have enough things to worry about on a wedding day.
