Question on custom prints for landscape photography

I have a few pano/landscape pictures I'd like to print that are quite large in size (and in very different aspect ratios - they are really wide). How is this sort of thing done? Where can I do it? Anything I need to learn/know/watch out for? I am looking for a very large size, around 20" in height and maybe 40-50" in width.

Thanks.

Hmm, well, crop them to the aspect ratio you want, and then, depending on the software you are using, you could resize/resample them so that you could "deliver" them to a print provider at a "proper" pixels-per-inch resolution. Some providers ask for a specific resolution (such as 300 ppi). Some don't.

If you don't know of a print provider, let us know where you live and someone can chime in with a suggestion!

I live in NJ and I don't know of any providers. My question is more in the form of print sizes. All I know is Walmart and Adorama and their print sizes are pretty limited (largest they do is 20 x 30).

I highly recommend Bay Photo for printing. I print a lot of landscapes with them.......I usually use the Kodak Endura Metallic paper too.....has a look unlike any other :) Fuji Pearl paper has silver undertones and the kodak has gold undertones. If you really would like a unique piece you don't have to worry about framing, check out they're metal prints

What about frames? Where can I get a custom size frame that isn't expensive?

For non-standard sizes, I often buy the wood frame material ready cut to my specification and assemble it myself. I have a local frame maker who would happily do it, but it costs more!

Print on Metal, it sticks off of the wall 1/2" and you don't need to use a frame. Looks very contemporary and draws attention :)

I just had a pano of mine done by Ezprints. http://ezprints.com …-and-panos/panoramas.html (external link)

The detail in the print is amazing even at such a large size. It's 20" high by 64.75" wide. I'll be mounting it on foam and hanging it directly on the wall this weekend. :)

I used these folks for a recent print of a stitch panorama...

You can specify and exact size print.
Mine was about 48" by 14".
It arrived a few days later.
I then got a local picture-framing art shop to make a custom size wooden frame with glass for it.
Total cost came to about £100.
