Seaplane in the Desert?

We went flying yesterday, and spotted about six Grumman Albatross Seaplanes at the Boulder City Airport.

They were a friendly bunch. They allowed us to climb right aboard and make ourselves at home. Here's my friend Ian in the cockpit of one.

Hmmmmmm..There are a couple that make the run from Long Beach to Catalina Island, but what are they doing in LV,NV? Great capture.

u must be thinknig pre 1960's when there was the catalina flying boats.. now the only thing fly btw catalina and long beach are two dc-3's

Actually Mike, I think these guys will probably light on the water, then cruise up to the marina. ;)

I think there are some used as water bombers for fighting fires. That might explain them being in AZ.

They have a similar build to water bombers, but usually water bombers have specific markings determining their department and location
