test shots with new lens

just got me a tamron 28-75. not the nicest lens but thought id try it. love it so far. here are some pictures i have got lately with it. all slightly edited in LR5. let me know what you think

Your test shots turned out very well, I think.

Shots are sharp enough, but the composition and processing leave a bit to be desired in my opinion. I don't like the pig cut off, the building lacks interest and isn't abstract enough to interesting architecturally. The car has real potential, but the clean white garage door kills it.

Just my thoughts, I always want people to be hyper critical, so I try to be.

I HAVE THIS LENS AND REALLY LIKE IT. ONLY THING I WOULD REALLY CHANGE TO
WOULD BE THE 24-70 VC MODEL, JUST A LITTLE OUT OF REACH AT THE MOMENT.

28-75 is a great lens, enjoy that $300 bargain!

I agree with the chubbyone (I feel like a bully saying that name ) in that the IQ is good but the composition and PP isn't very interesting in any of the pictures.

i agree with you guys. PP and composition are my areas i need to work on the most. just not really a computer savy guy. i do have LR5 and CS5 but im still learning lightroom.

Just keep practicing, you'll get there. Luckily there are lots of resources when it comes to learning PS and LR. Composition is a little harder because you can know all the "rules of composition" but still struggle with knowing what looks good in the frame. I've had several POTN members recently tell me that I've got the gift of it-but that doesn't mean I don't still have to work at it to achieve good composition. I think for some people it comes more naturally than for others but I think anyone can get good at it if they're willing to work at it. I found viewing other peoples' pictures very helpful because I would make myself figure out what I thought made a picture work or not. I'll tell you the "secret" for me; When you don't have a very interesting subject to photograph, try framing it from a different perspective, NOT the exact same one that everyone else is viewing the same subject. That usually means squatting down at a lower angle, or getting right up close and personal with it, or not just shooting it directly from the side or the front. If you want to see what I mean, check out this album. Feel free to browse any of my others, but this one in particular should show you what I'm talking about because in most cases, I'm taking a picture of something that just about every other photographer would have just walked past because they're not "classically beautiful" or easily photographed subjects. Heck, one picture is a row of catfish heads-which isn't pretty, but compositionally interesting. thanks i really appreciate the help! ill definitely start to focus a lil more on what lokos good in the frame and different angles and all that.

The Tamron 28-75/2.8 was one of my first lenses. I couldn't afford the Canon 24-70/2.8. I like the Tamron so much I saw no reason to replace it. Still have it and use it regularly.

Yours looks to be a good, sharp copy. Congrats.
