Well now CC has become available for a small price just for PS and LR, without having to have pre-owned cs3,

What do I need to do to ensure i don't loose my catalogue in the upgrade of lightroom? when updating does it ask for a catalogue etc? I want to ensure I do it right before I go in all gung ho and loose what I have already got!!

LR5 should find your old catalog and ask if you want to convert it to a LR5 compatible catalog. When it does this it makes a copy of the old catalog, so you shouldn't lose it, but just in case, you should back it up before the installation. If it doesn't find the old catalog automatically, initiate the conversion by doing File>Open Catalog or Import From Catalog.
