Congrats on the baby. I like the first one the best because you can see more of the face but I'm not a fan of vingette.

I agree it might be a bit much on the first

Yea, I have lots of people inquiring about pictures I've been posting (Facebook of course), thinking about maybe doing this photography thing on the side a bit. I like the newborn/kid stuff.

Thanks! They aren't necessarily for sale, as it was my daughter. Just anther way to ask if the pictures were of a "professional" or paid work, caliber.

Thanks! I now know it's about impossible to not like a picture of your own child, so I needed some reassurance that they were ok. :)

You should do it on the side. Maybe offer a model call for your friends on Facebook so you can get more practice.

As a father of three, grandfather of four and great grandfather of two I second the
motion. They are indeed very nice.

Yep, they are as good or better than the baby photogs in my area. Much of it comes down to a big old stack of props/blankets/etc. and soft lighting. Nice work!

I think they're very well done. If either of my kids were still an infant, I'd let you take their picture and then I'd buy your work. ;-)a

I'd pay for them but grumble about the over exposure and poor composition. Would I recommend you, no

Thanks! Yea not terribly difficult to get the shots, but the processing has been my biggest struggle. Glad you like them!

Nice to hear some fault, I would agree the crop is a little tight on two. Also, maybe less foreground and more headroom in one? Some actual advice and how to fix it would be more helpful to me if you'd be so kind.

I'll probably get some grumbles for this, but anyways, rant incoming:

So when I post here I know I open myself to critique from people of all levels of skill and experience. I am a beginner at this and need the feedback to keep learning. One thing I do lately tho, is before I blindly follow the recommendation of others, I try and find photos by them which speak to there level of skill. That way I can know whether or not to really put too much weight (and valuable time) into reworking something based on poor advice.

So tmoore, I did look up your flickr ( https://www.flickr.com/photos/47401703@N06/page1/ (external link) ) and I'm not saying this maliciously, but I did find a lot of your photos to be a bit underexposed on my monitor and too be frank poorly composed. I usually wouldn't bring this up but I did find it a touch comical given your critique.

So, my monitor and iPad are maybe set a bit dim, and I do prefer a brighter photo personally. All of this contributes. Preference is such a huge part of this art form. I guess all this useless banter is just me being a poor sport about your comment, of course that's not my intent but probably hard to believe otherwise.

If you wouldn't recommend me based on poor exposure and composition, I would at least expect you to have those concepts grasped yourself. :)

/rant
