This beauty has shown up around 8 am for the last 4 days, doesn't hang about long, just kinda looks around a bit then takes off...

Very nice, he, if like here will be a regular visitor/terrorizer on the yard. I have found that they seem to have an area rotation, some days they hunt/ fly in real fast all thru the day, other dayd they are off elsewhere, He will be back!

Nice job, Rex. When I first glanced at the pics I thought Sharp-shinned but then when I read your comment I gave the pics another look and sure enough, gray nape equals Cooper's.

really nice- recently was blessed/cursed with a coopers hawk in my yard. have not gotten any photos yet but I am finding lots of feathers from unlucky victims. I love nature

JD, you have an adult coppers and a juvie coopers. The outside tail feathers are shorter than the other tail feathers. In a sharpie they are about the same length. In an adult, the top of the head looks like a dark cap. While a adult sharpie's top color goes right down to the back of the same color. There are more differences, but they are harder to distinguish in the field and not as reliable. Here is a site that can help.
