V8 Supercars Phillip Island 2013

Some shots from yesterday's practice at the penultimate round of the 2013 V8 Supercar Championship. The weather was much kinder yesterday than it was to me today.

Nice shots, i went today and was dripping wet, gave up trying to avoid rain in the end but put the camera away until it stopped, I love how sharp your first few are, would make some nice poster prints. The holdsworth pan is a good one too, nice work!

The Alex Davison one is superb! Nice and sharp. Great set

I went today Did you do any cropping to the first three images? I See you used the 400mm f2.8 II with a 1.4x TC. Cheers.

Cheers. I would love a 300mm or 400mm f2.8, but not just yet. I feel my 150-500 can give me some great images once I figure out the appropriate camera settings and plan my composition etc.

Here's some of mine (I took about 2000 photos today and I think about 120 are great but I have just picked a handful to upload here; it will take me way too long to pick my favourites ). All taken with my Sigma 150-500 on my 1D3 typically at f11 or thereabouts. I know some aren't really sharp, but they have better composition than some of my sharpest, which I believe is more important.

Didn't realise that drag ute was spitting flames like that, i only saw it turning around!
I use the same 150-500 sigma by the sounds of it, i stayed on f10 most of the time, and about 1/320 for the shutter, worked pretty well. Nice pan on the engel shot!

Yeah it was spitting flames for quite a while actually, it was insane

Yeah I started off at around 1/400 and then stayed at 1/320 for a long time and then tried out between 1/125 and 1/250. I can assure you my keepers at or below 1/160 were very, very low haha.

Cheers on the Engel shot! That is a great looking car, it just needs to go a bit faster

Here's some more.

The poles in the foreground are very distracting but I couldn't seem to remove it without it being fairly obvious.

@ OP, Nice shots mate! Was shooting for Tekno that weekend, it's amazing what a bit of colour balance and curves work can do... If we only had time to do that after each session!

Cheers! (If you are talking to me and not the OP ). That's cool to hear! And yeah, it sure does take a long time!

And yes I did see that crash. I thought it would turn out MUCH worse. I was actually shooting the cars coming onto the front straight and my dad next to me quickly told me to turn around to where it looked like a crash would occur, which did. Unfortunately I missed the first couple of seconds or so, but I did get about 20 photos of it. Most are out of focus, unfortunately.

Nice GIF.... I was in the media centre at the time and the we all errupted in laughter when we saw it out the window, big brown-jocks moment! And then the same thing almost happened at the restart! ahaha amateur hour!
