This Pileated woodpecker was going nuts looking for a meal. I shot this at ISO 2500 and didn't use noise reduction. Is it very noticeable to you?

It's noticeable but doesn't diminish the beautiful shots.

Very nice shots, Rex; I think you might employ a little luminance smoothing and you wouldn't notice a thing.

No, I tried to turn up the loudspeaker volume, but the noise from that woodpecker did not come through. :p

Great capture, but poor tree.

Fantastic shots...just from the title, I knew it had to be a Pileated!

pwm2...loved the volume comment!

Thank you, everybody.
Al, I'll have to try that.
Pwm2, good one. Sweden is a long way off and my speakers are weak.

the wee bit of noise is no distraction at all Rex. Love the one with the chip of wood sitting on/flying over his shoulder!

Awesome shots, Rex.
I turn green with envy whenever someone posts such sharp captures of a Pileated WP. In my neck of the woods they are SO skittish and elusive. I'm thrilled just hearing their "wuk wuk wuk!" jungle call much less getting a good shot.
Congrats!!!

Ian, that chip was flying.
Barry, I can get pretty close to the male, but the female is a different story. She is skittish like a flicker.
Thanks to all for commenting.
