This could be my last auction on ebay...:)

for some things it's still the best way to go. you just have to abide by their rules because it is their world.

in 10 years my total sales have been $72,533.40 (and I haven't sold much in the past few years). a little more than half of my transactions are buys so who knows how much I have spent on ebay.

Just for the record, I sold an EOS 3 on 9/28 2013. I believe my funds were available immediately. It wasn't like I didn't sell anything for 90 days.

I don't sell a lot on Ebay. I sold my 70-200L is 2.8 markII this week on ebay. Apparently, my thread here attracted little attentions with my asking price $1850. I guessed everyone was expecting to pick one up around $1600. Hahahah... Anyway....the funds, according to Ebay, are supposed to be available in my PayPal account as of today. Not yet. The lens was delivered with tracking information. I haven't heard anything from the buyer even though I emailed him about leaving me a feedback. How long I have to wait to get my money?? Is the "date" accurate?

1) When was the item delivered? Typically the funds are released within 3 days after the tracking # shows delivery. If not, call PayPal and asking them to release the funds; they should do so without issue. PayPal Support, unlike eBay's, is actually fairly competent.

2) Getting feedback from the buyer has no effect. It used to, several years ago, but now proof of delivery is the only thing that will get the funds released.

3) Hopefully you used signature confirmation.

For the person who wanted to leave negative feedback for their non-payers: filing and completing the Unpaid Item Dispute is more important than buyer feedback ever was. Do you have your bidder blocks set?

OK, I just called PayPal and he ensured me that my money would be available by tomorrow morning. I told him I would check tomorrow to see, showing my doubts and then he really "insisted" that my money would be available. I think I almost made him upset. :)

If you sold it for $1850 on ebay you got $1650. Not much more then people here were offering you, and you would have had the money instantly. Just wanted to point that out. :D

I've been buying/selling (mostly selling) on ebay since 1999. Was in the first group of power sellers. I have been with Paypal when they were called x.com. I've never had a dime held. It must be a 'new-ish' thing.

I currently have a case against me. I sold a lens to India, and when the Post Office scanned it when I dropped it off, they accidentally scanned it as 'Delivered' instead of
Accepted'. The buyer freaked, thinking I scammed him by shipping something locally as his item. Long story short, the case is still pending (have to wait until something in the PO system shows), and ebay/paypal isn't holding my funds.

I think there are too many scammers out there that cause the holding of funds. I think it's a good idea, and if they decided to hold my funds because there was a question/concern, I'd be ok with it. Annoyed, but ok.

No, silly. Not $1850...hahahaha... I can do the math. I was offered $1820 paypal and shipped and insured because with all the rebates and bonus craps, anyone can get a new one for $1899 or cheaper, as I was informed. I sold it for a much higher price and with all the fees, I came out ahead. Some people feel that an used lens should be more than few hundred dollars cheaper than a new one. The typical selling price on Ebay is around 1920 to 2000. First, you get ebay bucks from buying on ebay. Second, some people have ebay bucks they want to use. Right now, there are several threads on the FS section selling the 70-200L mark II. Just watch when they would get sold. :)

They've been doing it for at least three years, but not for sellers with an established track record. They do it to new sellers, sellers who start to list things in high-risk categories, and sellers who have multiple cases filed against them.

My main selling account has never had money held, but I did on a second account that was new to selling. No big deal: I shipped, provided tracking, and had the funds in less than 10 days.

I sold one lens on eBay this year. It didn't go smoothly as the buyer had second thoughts about getting that particular lens vs a different brand. As we were sorting this out, and I was browsing through eBay user forums, it became very obvious that as a seller, I had no chance at all. Even if eBay sided with me - a slim chance in itself - the PayPal most likely wouldn't, and then there's a credit card company. You're lucky to only have to eat the shipping cost.

Long story short, I got paid in the end, but only because the guy was decent enough to accept that he won the lens and paying was the right thing to do.

In the end, I sold every other piece of my Canon equipment on CL and got better deal and cash in hand. Just need to be patient, it takes a couple months to sell a lens.

Wonder how much money Ebay rakes in on interest on money held?

Heheheh.....;) I got my fund precisely late night on the 23rd. Interests? They claim they don't collect interest. One thing we all know is that Ebay isn't seller friendly.

Well, they are not seller-friendly unless you consider that for virtually zero effort as a seller ebay puts you in front of millions of potential buyers. You just need to understand their policies and fees, and be certain that it is worth it for you to try and sell there.

I believe you have to wait 21 business days before the funds clear on your end or when the buyer leaves a positive feedback..

I don't want to start another EBay thread. I transferred some money to my bank account few days ago. Now, I am looking at my statement online. Ebay debited a dollar off to my total amount transferred. What's is the deal with that?
