So, I just got back from Israel and while I was there I managed to drop my T4i and lens! The camera got a little scuffed up, and had a small crack, but nothing too noticeable. I remembered I had the accidental coverage, so I enjoyed my trip and wasn't going to worry about it until I got home. I took the camera to Best Buy and the people at Geek Squad said that since the damages only appear to be cosmetic that they may not fix or replace it. He did say that they would recalibrate it anyways, so I figured that it was worth a shot.

He started to put the camera into the system, so that he could ship it off and told me that since the camera was recalled that he would just issue a credit for another camera. I walked out with my brand new T5i with STM lens that same day!! I know there isn't much difference, but I love the lens.

Just thought I would post this and give kudos to a good store. I received a letter saying to send my T4i to have the rubber grips replaced, but Best Buy went above and beyond :)

So you got to keep the T4I and they gave you a T5I?

Best Buy did the same thing with me. Ordered a battery, twice it shipped as wrong battery, 3rd time, I got a free battery, a 45 gift card and a credit back on the original purchase. I was on a 3 way call with the staff of Lisa Smiths office......and they went FAR beyond.

That would be something lol, but no. I gave them my T4i and in return had a credit for a T5i. I still had to pay $39 difference, but I didn't mind.

Makes more sense.

Heya,

The T4i was recalled?

Still, nice to see someone having a positive Best Buy experience, as it's usually the opposite.

I guess you can now update your sig ;)

Very best,

I think they are great, too! About 10 days ago, I ordered the SL1 and 40mm lens. The lens price was $10 less over the weekend, and today the camera is $50 less. They gave me $100 credit as a Rewards Customer. Cant beat that!

Rubber Grip adhesive recall.

Was your camera in the serial number range? I got the same letter from Best Buy, a year after I bought the camera. But I checked my serial number a year ago, not affected according to Canon.

Heya,

Hrm. No problems with my T4i. Rubber grip shows no sign of coming off or anything. I didn't even know about it. I think it wise to simply continue to nothing about it since I've had no issues and it's been since march or so that I picked it up.

Very best,

Nice to hear they're giving better service on the warranty/replacement policies. Years ago I bought a Playstation 2 from Best Buy with a replacement policy and when it inevitably broke it took Best Buy 45 days to replace it.

Oh, haha.

Well, not going to bother with that. No anaphylactic shock here.

I also like BB. A lot. The taxes thing you will soon not be able to avoid - Amazon you will soon be paying no matter where you are, and technically in many states there are "use taxes" where if you ship or bring something new into the state and you reside there, and you were not charged sales tax in a different locale at the time of sale (read - everything you buy online and don't pay taxes on) you need to report it and pay sales taxes on it during your annual taxes. If you don't, you are technically committing tax fraud. It's not one they are likely to follow up on, but you still are.

BB will match most online competitors prices now too - frankly on a large purchase I like to make it at a place I can go right back to if there is an issue. Like the Sony TV I just got - it had a dead pixel. No fight with shipping it back, or dealing with "stuck pixel policies", etc. Just looked up local store inventory online, found a store with it in stock (where I bought it had sold out), drove there, and they swapped it out no issue. New TV looks great. For less complex stuff I use my Amazon Prime membership all the time....but for the big purchases, I prefer brick and mortar.
