Really for high prices and TAXES.. I will pass I only go to best buy when I have to have it that day. Other wise buy it on line and save money and taxes..

They do price-match. I've had great luck using them for many purchases.

BB will match most online competitors prices now too

I've heard that but don't know how it works, do you look it up online then show it to a store employee?

Yes, they will verify it in the store.

I just ordered a 60D for $519 and got a 70-300 lens for $240 (after $300 discount for buying a camera and lens together). The only thing they wont price match is amazon's warranty / accidental insurance, which is a lot cheaper).

BB used to be an overpriced megastore full of clueless salespeople who knew so little about the items they were selling a simple question would send them running for reinforcements. And their pricing strategy seemed to be stuck in 1995. And that 15% restocking fee on top of 2 week return lost them many customers. Great to know they are changing, I will add them back to the bottom of my shopping list, below online retailers and Costco.

Never had any good experience with Best Buy in the past, so have stayed away. Perhaps the threat of bankruptcy has improved their customer service.

interesting, I've not bought from Best Buy but if they will price match Amazon, Adorama or B&H it may be worth checking out

I personally don't have an issue with a restocking fee. It can't be sold as new, so if things are done properly then it is checked out and sold as open box or sent back to the supplier where it becomes a refurb. Either of these examples represent lost revenue to someone in the supply chain.

I won't even discuss a neighbor who in film days, bought his equipment immediately prior to vacation, and returned it upon return. One retailer "caught" him on this scam and he could no longer shop there.

They price matched my 6D kit with Amazon's price. So I got it for a great price with 18 month 0 interest financing ;)

Yeah they price match BH and amazon(as long as its sold and shipped by amazon). Thats usually how i get all my SD cards, just bring it up on amazon on my phone and show the cashier and viola, price matched. The only bads thing about matching BH is you have to pay tax in best buy and BH theres no tax.

I shop at BB often. bought all kinds of stuff from them. they price matched 2 tablets I purchased. they matched one from amazon and one from walmart. went smoothly, they just verify the price on the website and they match it. and I like that they are all over the country. so if you have a problem BB is close.

Unless you live in Delaware.

Honestly, besides having fun trolling around the camera department and having salesmen try to hook me up with an amazing 70D, they seem to be carrying a decent selection of stuff.
Yes, I like to go, let them start their sales pitch and when they ask if I already have one, the mention of a "1D" really confuses them, yes, there is a camera called a 1D, and no, 1D isn't just that British band.

2 weeks ago I picked up a Lowepro Sport 200AW for just under $100 after tax, B&H had it for $116, I didn't know this difference until I got home, I was looking at buying a bag that exact same day (needed one urgently so I wouldn't have to frankenstein a bag and risk it not fitting on a regional jet overhead). Not the selection that I'd expect to see at a camera store, but certainly more than the standard stock of 1 of the small bags that fit a Rebel/55-250 and a water bottle and the regular Canon shoulder bag.

I won't even discuss a neighbor who in film days, bought his equipment immediately prior to vacation, and returned it upon return. One retailer "caught" him on this scam and he could no longer shop there.

So some people abuse it. OTOH there's also a legitimate reason to make use of easy return policy. If I buy an item, and it doesn't perform to expectations, I want to be able to return it. Costco and Amazon make it easy and largely pain free, and give you generous return windows. BB used to charge 15% fee and gave you 2 weeks. Guess what, I spent tens of thousands over the last 10 years at Costco and Amazon, and $145 at BB, out of which $120 was a gift card - or I would've never set my foot in that place. So, their return policy had cost them dearly, as far as I am concerned.

Bottom line is, the return policy is not due to vendor's goodness of heart. It's to make you spend money in their store. As far as I am concerned, BB and Circuit City were overpriced stores stocked with clueless sales clerks and stuck in pre-Internet mentality. CC went under, BB is trying to adapt, good for them.

Talking of which.. I was actually "banned" from CC when I was shopping for a camcorder back in 2001. Couldn't get any decent info on usenet back then, so I went to the store. I asked clerk to recommend me a model that worked well in dim light. He gave me a Canon unit that was absolutely horrendous in typical house lighting, with terrible artifacts. I brought it back and asked to try another one. This time it was a Sony hi8 that was pretty good except the microphone picked up strong high pitch noise from tape drive motor. So I brought it back too. Manager got all bent out of shape. Now, would you say that I was abusing the system, or that the idiot clerks didn't know the product they were selling ? Never shopped there again.

Ended up finding a recommendation for Sony MiniDV camcorder online & bought it on eBay in a "leap of faith" decision. Excellent camera. Still works great, 12 years later. I am sure that CC had it in stock, and if they took care to learn their own inventory, and recommended it to me at least on my 2nd arrival, instead of throwing a hissy fit, I'd be a happy return customer.

There is no restocking fee at BB unless the product is missing items.

I have no problem shopping at Best guy. They usually go way out of their way to give me a good deal. A few months ago I picked up a 60D w/ kit lens, nifty 50 and nifty 250 for less than they were going for at Amazon. No shipping and instant gratification. The salesman even helped me find the prices to match and kicked in another discount on top.

I have no reservations shopping there. Especially after we have been going around and around trying to get a laptop we picked up at Office Depot warrantied. I lost the receipt and they don't have any record of us paying an extra 100 bucks to get the extended warranty because I payed cash. Best Buy has all that in their records.

Best Buy must be doing something right, their stock is one of the top performing companies in the S&P 500 for this year
