Hello,

I was in Israel recently and while on the tour bus I had my camera backpack open. So, I started to walk down and while on the sidewalk I realized that I had forgotten to close my backpack. I started to turn my backpack towards me to close it, but all my lenses had fallen down about 3-4 feet and rolled onto the street. I haven't tried my 55-250 yet, but the 50 1.8 seems fine. I looked at the lenses and I don't see any scratches or cracks, so what should I look for to determine if they are still in working order? The cap was on the bottom where the contacts are, but not on the lens.

Thank you for your help!!

Check your AF and IS motors. Focus on something near and far and do this repeatedly to make sure the motor works well. Take a photo, review it and zoom in to make sure the image is sharp and in focus. Check the IS (if applicable) to make sure it's working properly. Video mode is the best way to quickly check to see if your image stabilization is properly working. The shock from hitting the pavement sometimes knocks the gears from the motors out of alignment, especially the plastic lenses. If the rear caps remained in place, your contacts should be fine. It's the internal parts that I'd be concerned about.

Good luck.

Heya,

See if they attach, get recognized, and work with the camera. Check focal lengths on zooms to ensure they actually zoom appropriately. See if autofocus works properly and still nails focus. Try a few low light, long exposure shots to test Image Stabilization. Basically shoot pictures in all kinds of settings and situations, and test all the mechanical functions of the lenses. See if anything doesn't work right or shows odd images or out of focus images on things that normally were easy to nail focus with. Use a tripod to eliminate you as part of the equation if something is out of focus.

Very best,
