Used from Ebay, not a chance.

I buy all my Apple gear new, just a personal preference.

Hm. Perhaps. First thing I would do is low-level format the drive and load up a fresh installation of OSX. After that it should be fine.

I've sold three or four Macs on eBay.

I dont think the data on the drive is his issue in question?

Then what's the problem? Unless it's suffered physical damage, then with a fresh install of the OS it should work like new.

Pay by Paypal, and you have a LOT of buyer protection if the product is not as described.

Get the serial number of the machine described for a little more protection should it not be as described.

I bought a used macbook pro and it worked great for about a month then the logic board died. Probably didn't have anything to do with the previous owner, just my bad luck. But, I went to the apple store and they sent it to a third party repair shop that fixed anything and everything that was wrong with it for $280. They replaced the logic board and touch pad and did a check of everything else and it only cost $280.

Wanna buy mine? haha I just now got my Aperture library exported and moved to my PC, after procrastinating forever. It's about time to clean it up and move it out, finally.

Tom: $280 for all those repairs is an excellent price. When the DC-in board on my old G4 12" died, Apple wanted $600+. I fixed it myself for $50 and about 3 hours of my time.

Buying a Mac off eBay is no different then buying camera gear or any other item.

You look at the sellers feedback, what they've sold previously. Make sure all the details are in evidence, documented. You use PayPal to protect yourself.

Request that the seller unregister the device from Apple (assuming they did originally) so when you set it up you can then register it to yourself.

I bought an 2006 MacBook (the white poly case ones) in 2010 or 2011 just to be able to access my 1Dmk2. It died yesterday after having been in the kids hands for 2+ years.

Not a bad return on a couple hundred bucks.

....the best camera is the one you have on you at the time.
