I'm about to order a 50mm 1.4 and I was thinking about how much I DESPISE those canon lens caps. They're so damn annoying to remove with a lens hood or even impossible.

Tamron, however, can have my first born son. I love their pinch style caps.

I'm planning on getting the lens hood for the 50mm as well that is why I'm making this thread. Is it annoying or impossible to remove and put on the canon cap with the 50mm's hood? I haven't gotten a chance to test this one specifically. If so...would this cap fit it?

I bought these for ALL my lenses after getting the 28-75. I love them. All my Canon caps have been ditched.

And yes, it is possible to place/remove them with a hood on. Works for all my lenses, even the 100-400.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Hmm...I remove/replace my canon lens cap on my 100-400L all the time, and I've never had a scratch.

I just got the 28-75 and I love the lens caps. I am thinkikng of replacing the one on my kit lens.. However, I haven't used my kit since I got the tamron  so I dunno if its worth it.

while the tamron pinch cap is nice the cap on the other end is just a plain stupid design. one day i'll remember to get a generic or canon cap to replace it.

I think you mean the one that attaches to the rear of the lens. If so, I completely agree with you.

Edit- I also love the Tamron pinch cap (for the front). And as someone said, N*kon has the same time of caps...

Cheers,

Ah, brilliant! Thanks for the link. But it seems they only have it until size 72mm. I want one for my Bigma (86mm).:(

I personally have no problems with the canon cap for my 50mm and my 28-105mm with or without the hood. The hood of the 50mm is large enough and leaves plenty of space for me to get my big sausage fingers in there to get the release buttons, and the petal style hood of the 28-105mm isn't hard to manage either as long as I position the cap so the release buttons are aligned with the smaller side petals. Either case is just a well flicked fingertip to release and to put it back on, I just lay the cap in there to engage on one side, and push in the button on the other side as I maneuver it into place. I have gotten so that it takes less than a second either way.

Ah, cool. Thanks.
But i wonder how much the little extra ring for the string would get in the way. The bigma hood is quite narrow.
