Hi all,
Just wanted to share the second-life experiece on an (old) super tele, the 400mm F/2.8 MKI.
Last month I found this beauty and just couldn't resist taking it home with me. The lenscode said it was made in 1991. Exterior pretty beaten but optically in mint condition (no fungus).
I knew it was the first EF-AF lens to come out and misses the fluorite elements from today so wide open some softness was to be expected (in fact not that bad al all).
I was planning on using it mostly with a 5dIII for birding but went out to test it on a 600d (crop sensor) with a TC to reach a whopping 1200mm.
Despite bad weather (overcast, 4° with rain showers and a tiny bit of sun) I went to Terneuzen with a monopod and set the 600d at ISO400.
You can judge for yourself but for me the results came out pretty well.
The buildings on the other side is Vlissingen, some 11 miles away (18km).
Only next time I hope on better (weather)conditions.
