Safety FE...What is it?

Just got my Canon G16. One of the menu options is "Safety FE". The manual doesn't tell you what it does. I'm sure somebody here knows.

It seems the equivalent to the 'Safety Shift' option available in other G cameras but applied to the flash photography.

Check the English version of the G16 User Guide page 86 for a description and use of the Safety FE menu setting.

Thanks! I did a document search for "Safety FE" in the User Guide but apparently missed that note.
