Depending on what I am doing, I will set the time and let the camera do the f value. If it is dust, it should all be the same color right?

do you compensate the high iso by closing the shutter? dust on the sensor is far more easy visible at small apertures.

But have you ever seen dust give light spots, and not just dark spots where the light has been blocked?

well its an easy test whether or not the f value has any impact. Just test it.

no.
what I do see are two photos that look very different due to a change in ISO and Aperture. Since I cannot change the sensor easily, I would go ahead and see what influence the f value has as my next step.

Just curious. Have you been shooting on a beach lately? I've never actually seen it but I imagine that any dust with a crystalline structure such as salt or sand, given the right angle, might create white spots and black spots. I'm grasping at straws here.

It probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense to really nail down the cause exactly. We know it's the sensor, not the lenses. We don't know if it is actually a sensor gone bad or stuff on the sensor. Assuming you tried the above voodoo sensor clean the only other options are to either Try cleaning the sensor yourself, or sending it to Canon. There are instructions all over the internet for cleaning the sensor. If you do a sensor cleaning yourself and that doesn't solve the problem, then your only options are to live with it or send it to Canon.

Hmm, you say the sensor is spotless, but those spots have to come from somewhere! If they happen with different lenses, the sensor is about the only answer!

But just realize that those little spots would be tiny on a sensor. People actually use magnifiers to find "stuff" on sensors. But a good cleaning should show a difference. Take a shot of a clear sky using a narrow aperture then do a cleaning and take the same shot and see what you get! Hopefully the sensor is not damaged, hopefully it's just "stuff", all you can do is check it out!

have you actually checked that? dust can get in easily, even if you are not shooting in a sandstorm constantly.

I'd be sending it into Canon for inspection/repair.

I use manual exposure settings on the copy machine

Anyhow, I sent them an email. Just waiting for the reply. Good thing the 10D still works or I will go into DT"s without a camera

Dry

That may not fix a problem depending on what it might be. You might try a wet sensor cleaning. http://photographylife.com …or-in-less-than-5-minutes (external link)

If you are comfortable with it. I would check multiple sources before doing it though.

Contacted Canon via email as I just have not had time to call. But I will tomorrow, I am going to send it in.

First email requested a couple photos unedited. I sent them along with the ones posted here. Reply was that there is nothing wrong with the photos. Only thing they saw was the high ISO (which the 7D is supposed to handle) and that that is what is causing the spots.

So I sent the last photo above and asked why they just started.

Second email gave me in depth instructions on how to clean my sensor (which I have done and no matter what angle I shine the light or look through the magnifying glass, there is nothing on it).

So tomorrow I will call and get the address where I can send It (TN I think) . I really need to get it serviced anyhow. Will have them put me a new focus screen also as I cleaned (do not do this !) the one that was in it because it had dust and lint behind it and very annoying. Now as you might have guessed, it is worse.

So after this weekend (the last survivor of the Enola Gay flight will be in town so I got to photo him) it will be on the way. I will have to play with the 10D until it comes back.

Will let you know what they say .
