I am currently on holidays in Hawaii and before I departed home I purchased the new Sigma 120-300 sports lens matched with the 2x teleconverter specifically to use on this trip.

I am using the lens and converter primarily with a Canon 1dx, but also with a Canon 7d.

Today the 2 x converter appears to have stopped working and I keep getting a message with each camera body that says "Error 01. Camera cant communicate with lens. Please clean contacts".

I have tried all my lenses by themselves with both camera bodies and they all work fine, but as soon as I attach the 2 x converter to any lens all I get is the error message.

I really need the adittional focal reach of the 2 x converter whilst I am here in Hawaii but I am unable to get it to work.

Can anyone advise of way to rectify the problem?

Well, sorry to have to ask this.. but your username begs the question.... did you clean the contacts on the TC?

Very helpful Kel... :-) (And yes, I did clean the contacts)

My camera(s) are not recognising any lens when I use the 2 x tele-converter.

The aperture setting defaults to 00 with the converter on and is unable to be adjusted. Press the shutter and all I get is the 01 error.

If I take the converter off and just use a lens by itself, everything works fine.

It died on me today during a Whale watch expedition with the Pacific Whale Foundation, and as such, I was unable to get the focal reach I needed without it.

Did you attach the converter to the lense first then attach them to the body?

Normally I always attach the converter to the lens first and then to the body, but after the failure today I tried both ways and it made no difference.

you could try taping the electrical contacts, it should at least allow you to still shoot, and i would think that AF would be retained...exif would be affected though, and the aperture may not be right...

Thanks for the advice folks, but I have resolved the problem now.

Closer inspection revealed two screws on the base plate of the converter had worked themselves slightly loose.

Once I tightened them it all worked again.

I wish I had the same luck! I got the Err01 message on my 5D3, paired with my 24-105, when I was in Patagonia earlier this month. I wanted to travel light so that was the only body/lens combination I brought on the trip. After the Err01 message all I was able to do was shoot wide open. Even on manual focus, the 24-105 kept 'hunting' and, looking at the exif data when I finally got home, there were a bunch of images where no aperture was recorded. I'm getting the lens back next week, hoping it's fixed. My other lenses worked just fine on my 5D3 when I got home and tested them out.
