Can the 6D trigger off-camera flash on its own?

I tried searching, but can't find the answer. Can I place a strobe somewhere off camera and the 6D will trigger it wirelessly?

Thanks

My understanding is no. You either need a trigger like the YN622 or a flash on the hotshoe that can trigger the off camera flash.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I think you have a typo in your signature. Σ10-22? Or is that a new one?

The Canon cameras that can trigger remote flashes by themselves do that by using their internal flash as an optical trigger. The 6D doesn't have any built-in flash, so no luck there. Canon's solutions are the ST-E2 or the ST-E3-RT triggers. Or a flash that can act as a master.

Thanks for the answers. All that makes sense. I figured since some of the Rebels can do it then the 6D would be able to. But now I see that it has to have a flash onboard to do the triggering.

Thanks again for the info.

Cat Lover, no typo... I also own a T2i and the Sigma 10-22 constant max aperture (f 3.5) lens performs adorably on it. I've had that lens for a few years. It is a lens intended for "crop frame" sensors.

Strange but everybody else calls it a Sigma 10-20. Is yours the Mens Room edition (jk)?

Σ is the greek symbol for sigma, so "Σ10-22" is "Sigma 10-22"

Just an easy way to abbreviate it.

The issue is the 22, not the Sigma...

Oops! Thanks, Cat Lover. That typo has been there a few years and you are the first to notice.

You should receive the POTN reading comprehension award! :D
