I don't know if this has been asked before but I'm too lazy to do a search. :mrgreen:

If you get a brand new camera, insert a brand new SD card and format, would it say 00001 or would it be some other number?

In case if anyone is wondering I'm talking about a 6D.

the file # should be 1 but the shutter count could have a few clicks on it from the factory.

Thank you for the quick answer Jeremy. :)
Now my next question is...is there a relation between the formatted number and a shutter count? When it comes to new machines?

Reason I'm asking all these questions is I found a seller on craigslist that claims has a brand new body with receipt and all but that doesn't mean shutter hasn't been actuated a few thousands times. Lol.
By the way I'm not home so I can't dowoad the shutter count app to my laptop and take it with me. :(

The file number and shutter count are completely separate, from my understanding. Hope that answers your question.

Yeah file numbers are irrelevant to shutter count. You can manually reset them anytime you want, automatically every time you format the card, or have it continuously go in order but if you put a card in with a higher file number it continue after that number and will reset after 9999.

You shutter count ca be more or less than the file numbers until you hit 10,000 actions then it will always be less. My 5DIII has a handful less shutter actions than the file numbers because I did some in camera HDRs.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was going to go see the camera today but I ran out of time. I'm gonna see it tomorrow afternoon. So I'll have my laptop with me. :)

...*seller on craigslist that claims has a brand new body with receipt and all but that doesn't mean shutter hasn't been actuated a few thousands times.

This being the case, the thousand actuations, it should not be referred to as new. It isn't even a refurb since it hasn't been checked by a knowledgeable individual. All this should be refleced in the price. Egen in like new condition I would not pay more than about 75% of refurb price. You may not have any warranty, which refurbs have. Can you determine if it is grey market product.

Craiglist = buyer beware.
