my picture looks odd in CS2 (almost a velvia cast to it), but normal upon saving. it is not a color profile issue as i have tried several and no change. it just started happening recently. any ideas on how to fix, as I don't want to do a fresh install over this.

first pic in cs2, second at saving time.

It's hard to say what's happening, as neither image has an embedded profile, and hence aren't colour managed even when I transfer them into Photoshop.

Can you do the same again, this time saving them with embedded profiles (if you're using Save for Web, there's a check box to embed the profile; similarly there's a check box to embed the profile in the standard Save dialog).

It sounds like some kind of colour management issue. It would help if you describe what you're doing in each situation - also what you've done to calibrate your monitor.

A properly calibrated workflow involves a calibrated monitor and images that are tagged with the correct ICC profile (it also involves the possession and use of appropriate printer profiles, but let's not worry about that at this stage). Ignore what you see on screen in applications that aren't colour management aware.
