It was a clear, cool morning at home so I decided to hit the road on the search for some eagles. Heading for Feguson's Abattoir in Bayview, Pictou County, the sky greyed over and the snow started to fall. I decided to stick it out and see what type of shots I could get in the less than ideal conditions.

After passing the abattoir, there was a lone tree with 18 eagles perched, and the 19th coming in for a landing. Continuing to explore the area, there were a number of fields away from the abattoir that were absolutely packed with eagles. I simply could not count them all. I must return to this area on a clear day!

Any suggestions for improvements, especially shooting in inclement weather, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

What a sight! 4 & 6 would be great if it wasn't for the distracting snow but then it also shows the birds in a natural setting which can be pretty rough on them. Some might not even mind the snow because of the naturality of the shot.

Wow. That is amazing. Great shots, and I personally don't even mind the snow in the close-up shots.

great stuff, and I thought my shot with 13 of them on the ice was a lot... it is great to see that many in one frame.

It was certainly incredible. One field easily had over 100 eagles. I didn't have any of my shorter lenses with me, and I doubt the shot would have turned out with the snow, but it was an incredible sight.

I think I was minding the snow more than the birds. They were all still very active.

Next time on a clear day, I'll have to remember to bring my wide angle lens with me. There were multiple trees with a dozen or so.

The snow was a pain. There are many shots that I had to discard because of snow blocking eyes, or others where the birds were totally obscure. At least I know where to go next clear day.

Here are a few more of my favourites from the day:

Even though these two are the clearest due to the snow, I really like how it shows the true size of these birds. The wing-span is incredible.
