Yup. According to slickdeals, it lasted 12 hours in October. Only 8 hours today.

Actually, the deal in October (on the 21st) lasted only 6.5 hours, from 4:45 PM to 11:15 PM ET. They followed it up with a 30 minute sale on the 24th at $2677.48.

The deal today lasted 10 hours, from 3 AM to 1 PM ET.

At noon, It's now $2,999... so keep checking every hour.

It's now $2,799 just a few minutes after I posted above. What's Amazon up to?

I missed the deal because Amazon could not get me the gift cards I needed to split the payments. Said they needed 24 hours to provide gift cards and as such, I could not split the payment across two cards. Oh well, maybe someone else will have a deal before Christmas, but I am not holding out hope. I actually talked to Amazon customer service and they could not help me. So far, I have missed the two great deals this week for the camera.

Is that something new? I've always received a gift card within minutes. I've used the same trick to split payments.

Did you choose the email delivery option? Mine says delivery within 15 minutes and it did.

Yes - I chose the email option and when it had not arrived in 30 minutes (they said it would take 15 minutes on the order) I contacted customer service. They said they had to wait 24-48 hours for the finance institution to verify payment due to the amount on the cards (more than $1000). When I asked if they could split the payments for me without using the cards and honor the deal that was in existence when I started the whole process, the customer service rep said they could not give me the deal. The discussion with Amazon customer service concluded approximately 30 minutes after the deal had expired (since I waited to contact them). Needless to say, I am very disappointed in Amazon in this matter. I am a Prime member and have never had a problem with them before. I was online with customer service for almost 20 minutes. Hopefully one of the other retailers (Adorama or B&H) will have a similar deal in the coming days, but I am not holding my breath. The $2799 deal is good, but still $100 higher than the deal I missed due to the delay on the gift cards.

Other retailers allow you to split payments across two payments methods (I work for a e-retailer who allows this method of payment), but Amazon is not one of them. The only way is to get the gift cards and apply them to your account.

Ah I gotcha. There was probably some limit that triggers a more in-depth review to make sure the gift cards weren't purchased fraudulently.

Sorry you missed the deal man. I'm sure the price will drop again, we just don't know when.

I have my alerts set up on CPW to notify me if the price drops below $2700. Hopefully, I will get an email in the next couple of weeks for a retailer that will accept my purchase method.
