Very cool! Especially in Florida! They're not native there, so I'm guessing a zoo or sanctuary or something, perhaps?
I shot the below image many years ago, on slow film in a dark rain forest with flash and what proved to be a pretty poor quality 200mm lens...
... At the Monkey Forest Temple in Bali, Indonesia. I'd sure like to go back and reshoot with the gear I have now! Where this was shot, the macaques are pretty tame... maybe too tame. They love to beg from the visitors and approach pretty close. A German tourist learned the hard way
not to keep bananas in a pants pocket. One of the more aggressive monkeys tried to steal a snack and the tourist's shorts ended up down around his ankles!
You got some great shots and are right about always having a TC with you! I'd mark the spot and go back, if it were me. I'd try to (safely) get some shots of the monkeys being aggressive and giving warning snarls... they have a nasty
big set of canines!
Not sure what camera you were using, but the second, third and fourth shots would have been good to have 7D with it's higher precision Spot Focus (reduced size AF point), which is great to shoot past branches and tree trunks. (I just looked at the EXIT and see you were using 60D.... good thing to have the crop sensor camera with it's "extra reach" too).
My "walk around" kit with 7D is 10-22, 28-135 IS, 60/2.0 macro, 300/4 IS and 1.4X TC. For full frame it's 20/2.8, 24-70/2.8, 135/2, 300/4 IS and 1.4X. In both kits I usually have a set of macro extension tubes, flash and off camera shoe cord, too.
Can you image what the shots look like, made by those other folks seen in some of your shots, using their
camera phones?
p.s. Your headline for this post... at first I was wondering what "Mokeying" was
(24Lii, sigma 50A, 135L), and for the other ends of the spectrum, sigmaEX 14mm2.8 and sigmaEX 100-300F4.
