Yes, but your lazy solution is just no fun. How much enjoyment do you actually get out of using your phone camera? You have zero control of anything. Personally I detest taking photos with my phone....zero enjoyment, and if I don't enjoy it, why even do it.

With my X100, I have full control of the settings so it allows me to create the vision I want, not what my phone dictates.

I have basic control. It's fun in that I don't have to work at it. Snap n go. It's not always about the photographic process for me.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

No, the pictures might be OK...but the process of shooting with a phone is boring. You have no control of anything...no fun...so why bother?

Location scouting on the phone that's already with me and automatically GPS tagging every image so I can fire up the navigation app on same phone and get directions to that location with just a few clicks is one reason I bother.

Taking snaps of the nephews when my primary purpose is being with the nephews is another reason I bother.

Seeing a random item I like and might want to buy later is another reason I bother.

Texting documentation-purposed photos to a friend, family member, or client is another reason I bother.

I have tons of reasons to use the phone's camera.

It's always about the photographic process for me -- ie interacting with my subject, working with the light, finding an interesting background, etc etc etc.. DoF is about the control on the camera I really considder to be of creative value. I generally just want 'correct' exposure at time of capture to give me maximum lattitue to play later.

I would argue that you still have control of all the most important things - ie everything that goes into the front of the lens.

btw, my phone has exposure comp and a proper flash ;)

That's great for you. I always have my X100 on me and use it for those situations as well...but I also have my X100 in cases when there is an opportunity to get more creative and produce better results than what is possible with a phone. That is the case where you either just pass by that opportunity becuase you don't want to lug around a DSLR with you everywhere you go or you take a substandard image using a phone. I'd rather be ready for these opportunities as they occur during my travels in all sorts of unexpected locations.

I actually have excellent photo books of images taken in different cities using my X100. I know this would not have been possible using my phone camera only. I also know that I would not have even ventured out to take these pictures if I didn't have my x100 as I would not have lugged around a DSLR outfit with me during business travels.

I shoot for a living so I seldom walk around with a camera just for the heck of it. Even my personal photography is deliberate and planned. I just don't care to have anything hanging off me or bulging my pockets unless there's definitely a reason.

I actually walk around pretty much 100% of time with a 5dmk3 and 85L, but that's cause I'm working on a 100 strangers project :D

I have a smallish camera backpack that fits my camera + 580ex in the bottom, a 36" reflector in the laptop compartment and my lunch in the top. A shoulder bag would really bug me. A backpack is fine.

Out of curiosity, is this really a creative control issue, or an image quality issue?

Both. Creative control that allows my vision to be projected into the image is very important to me. Image quality really depends on the purpose of taking the photo. If I just want to post it onto the net...then I am not concerned about the quality of the image. However, most of my reasons to take a photo is to record a memory and put that memory into a photo book, so the quality of the image matters.

If my end goal was a photo book, I'd be doing what you're doing. My cell phone images don't end up anywhere important in the epic or grand sense of the word.
