I concur that you don't need to replace your kit lens right away.

Regarding the differences between the two Tamron 17-50, you can judge for yourself

Rockrz, I just started a thread on how impressed I was with a comparison between my 18-55 STM "kit" lens and a 17-40L I just acquired. I'd say that if anything, hang onto that 18-55 until you really feel it's holding you back somehow. You may never get to that point with it though.
