Still no viewfinder or built in flash ? That's a disappointment.

Could be a great camera for landscapes, though.

Whatever flash they could put on that camera would be basically useless, and adding a viewfinder would add bulk and expense. At that point, just get an SL1. I like the looks and AF performance of this camera, I could see adding this to the bag. I just wont be the one to get on the initial bandwagon. :)

I went into a local camera shop a few weeks ago wondering about the M2....

.....no one knew anything(!), but at the time I had a play with the EOS Kiss 7 and 7i (not quite sure what they're called outside Japan - sorry), and in all honesty, I was staggered at how close the Kiss 7 is in size to the EOS M.

We're talking a couple of millimetres here and there PLUS the viewfinder.

So.....I really can't see Canon making an 'M' with a viewfinder.

Ho hum.
:(

I expect their next major move will be mirrorless FF in a dSLR-sized body......but what do I know?! ;)

Regards,

Simon

I don't get it, a flash should be a must!
Even on the higher full frame.

About the viewfinder, I love em, can't stand shooting looking at a screen.

Not if it acted like a remote master, then it'd be quite useful. Which is an argument for putting a flash on all camera's.

Just put a small STE2 on it, not much bulk at all. A flash the size of 1/2 a postage stamp isn't going to provide any kind of good lighting, it would be the size as the one on our S90, and it isn't very useful.

It appears that the autofocus had improved. And it now has Wi-Fi. For many people that eschewed the original EOS-M, this will be enough to get them to buy. For me, I'm happy with the AF performance now. And although not the same as Wi-Fi, I'll get an eye-fi card to upload wirelessly. I didn't see the MSRP but I'm guessing it'll be about the same as the original when it was launched.

As for flash, because of the small size of the M, I can bring along my YN-560 and triggers to get off camera flash. I've tried pop up flash and while it's better than nothing, using a real flash is much better. Although some people might just want the pop up to act as a master. Anyhow, there's always the 90EX right?

could be offensive, but I'd say, this is simply crap. No respect showed to its customers.

and it looks like the experiment on mirrorless is done in the USA...not that i'm surprised it didn't do well at all here...i'm surprised they don't have a viewfinder, and didn't use the dual-pixel technology...

The comments below is all about the product..

This will be at around $900.. how could it compare to Nex, Fuji, even EM5? Not even close.. and this is the Mark II, what's the intrinsic improvement there? The bloody brilliant 18MP CMOS since T2i..? It has been almost 4 years.. and it's digital..

And I doubt the focus speed, exact same "2.3x faster" as they claimed for the new firmware of EOS-M. They don't really clarify what's object of comparison of this 2.3x faster.
The improvement from algorithm is limited, if the CMOS remains the same, and there are always trade-offs.
EOS-M now are $300 kit, and by putting in wifi or so, they multiply the price by 3.
And Canon never introduced the 11-22 to US market btw.

I have to agree with JZ here. This is somewhat underwhelming, although I'll hold my final verdict until some reviews come around. I was hoping for more from Canon in Round 2.
