What you guys seem to forget is that the awesome price you paid for M was a clearance fire sale. Not some great decision on part of Canon.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder on this one...Who cares how / why I got a great little mirrorless camera for 300 bucks - but I did. It's a good overall package - looking through specs on the M2, doesn't look like an incredible change but if it addresses one of the main concerns that users had with the M, maybe more people will be apt to buy it at the higher costs?

You still don't screw your customer base by dead-ending a product. They should have done some market research before releasing the M1...and what is worse, they drained their inventory by doing a fire sale on the M1, knowling all along the product would be dead. Thank you Canon.

Oh, I don't know about that.... Look at the bright side, everyone who bought now now owns a collectors item. And who knows, the M may fetch a pretty penny on eBay in a few years..

I doubt it.

Fire sale or not, the price just cannot be beat. That alone is a selling point, least for me.

Using a high ISO is no substitute for a flash, either. It doesn't really help to freeze motion the way flash does, and any camera - especially M which basically has Rebel sensor - would be noisy and losing details above ISO1600, and certainly above 3200. And of course ISO does zero, nothing, nada for fill light.

I cannot use flash for what I shoot, so high shutters and high ISOs are all I have left. I have never shot with the EOS M vs I, so it would not be able to things like this? That is disappointing because I was more interested in the vs II of the M.

Nice shot !

Given that your shutter speed was 1/1000 at f3.2 at ISO6400, I assume it was relatively well lit - which is probably normal for a basketball court.

I think the thing to worry about in this situation is the AF tracking ability, which is part dependent on camera, and part on the lens. From what I read regarding M, the AF speed of Canon EF lenses used with adapter is rather poor. M2 is supposed to be better, so you may still be OK.

The karate dojo that my kids are going to is very poorly lit, so to keep shutter speed high enough I need to use a flash. Even though the Nex built in flash is pretty weak (GN6) it's still OK for this kind of situation. Without it, I would neet to carry an external flash with me at all times.

My wife has one amazing camera for $300. She uses her M and the 22 all the time. I bought her a EyeFi card and an extra battery and she is in heaven.

Make her happy and I'm happy ;)

What I find a little ironic, is that Canon seems to be hesitant or not very enthusiastic towards the whole mirrorless market. However, at the same time, they developed the very technology that can push mirrorless cameras to the next level (dual pixel af). Once that gets incorporated into the mirrorless cameras, we may start seeing action photographers even moving to mirrorless. Maybe Canon isn't ready for that to happen and therefore, that is also why they neglected to add it to the M2. I mean, they still gotta sell their upcoming 7D2 and high MP 1D which are coming out soon supposedly.

The issue comes from lenses, which is a pain for all mirrorless cameras especially larger format.

Actually M43 has been quite good for action shooting, the focus is amazing.

If I was primarily shooting sports, even my T3i would've been insufficient, I'd go for 7D and a fast focusing, fast aperture USM lens - just like TeamSpeed.

I used (briefly) Nikon V, which is probably the fastest focusing mirrorless on the market, bar none. The problem is, with it's tiny sensor, it sucks in dim light - noisy as hell.

My Nex 6 is better indoors than my T3i was, but it's mainly due to it being easier to lift shadows without as much color noise (you still get the grain). But it's not a fast action camera. And the choice of E-mount lenses that are fast enough is limited. Now, with a LA-EA2 adapter, which is basically a focusing unit from one of Sony's SLRs, you can use one of their big DSLR lenses, with good speed - but no image stabilization.
Still... for what I shoot, it works fine. For action-heavy shooting, I'd stick with a DSLR. A7/7r lets you do both with same pool of lenses.

This was shot with Sony kit lens 18-55 f3.5-5.6 - as any kit, it's decent but not spectacular. It keeps up well enough with kicks & jumps, especially with a flash. I also have a couple of primes that are faster and probably focus faster as well, but when action is moving around fast in a relatively small space, and you're confined to one place, it's a PITA to use a prime. If I was shooting things like that a lot, I'd get an A-mount lens and used it with an adapter.
