Damn... that's incredible. I paid $900 for my used copy last year. This lens belongs in every shooter's arsenal, I think. Fantastic lens.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Which is an incredible lens, but if you can use the 70-200 now, I would not hesitate to buy the f/4 IS for this price. You can still keep saving for the 70-200 2.8L IS II, and then you can sell the f4 for what you paid for it now. (Or at least pretty darn close.) At most, you'd probably only sacrifice $100 to use this lens for however long you had it...which is not a bad "rental" fee.

Another thing to consider is what you'll use the 70-200 for. For example, if you primarily shoot landscapes or do a lot of hiking, the f4 version will be much better due to the much lighter weight and size.

Just a few things to consider.

No pressure. But our job here on POTN, after all, is to help you spend your money. I'd buy now!

!!!!

;)

No, you're right. I probably ought to do the 70-200 f4 mid-way through saving up for the 2.8. I need way too many lenses :(
