Hi,

I plan to spend three days in Barcelona with my wife, and don't want to take more than one lens: I've got choice between a 24 1.4, a 50 1.4, a 100 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8; what would be your choice ?
Thanks !

I would take the 24 and 70-200 so you have a mix. If it can only be one I'd probably do the 50

Barcelona - either big buildings, like cathedrals, or narrow streets in Barrio Gothica, or huge spaces. For all of that the 50 mm will be to long, there is no way to frame Sagrada Familia with it. On the other hand, you will want to take shots of very unusual details of Gaudi's architecture, and 24 mm is not long enough. I would second the recommendation of Mrslinger85 above, 24 and 70-200. However, if you have a normal zoom, something like 24-105, it would be ideal for this city.

I personally love primes. That 24mm is a great walk-around lens as it covers a lot of ground. I'd take that one if I were you. Another advantage is that it's relatively lightweight.

Thanks Jack for your response. I've been to Barcelona last week. The city was so full of tourists that I haven't been able to take a lot of photos, let alone switch lenses, so I just took pics with the 70-200. I hope I'll be soon able to go back there, this time when it'll be less crowded, and enjoy the 24.
Here's one I took of a Miro sculpture:

Hi,

My choice would be the 70-200mm f2.8. If traveling to a new place, I would have little interest in shooting anything wider than 70mm, so this choice goes down in the "no brainer" category for me.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

know first what you are looking to shoot when travelling.
personally i would bring the 24 and 50.
100 if you are into tele or want to do some macro/close-up shots

Have you been to Barcelona? If you have, would you share with us how you managed to frame the Sagrada Familia with 70mm, please?
