#2 I think I'd still try to lighten the shadowed eye.

Yeah, I typically get carried away and end up with zombie look when I start playing with shadows on the face ;) I will try that though, thanks.

Added: I lightened it up a bit and replaced the original on Flickr.

What about skin colors ?

I like the increased contrast in #2. I dont see any problem with the skin color in either really. The colors dont seem right in the wallpaper in the top shot, but thats my interpretation.

Well, I tried to get artsy and darken the background, didn't quite work out.

Agree with gonzogolf - your skin colors are good in either so it's a matter of preference unless you are trying for what she actually looks like. Then you have to decide how good it is.

I prefer #2 because it seems a bit warmer.

I'd try several things differently:

  • She's too close to the background. Get her at least 5 ft away from it and then you can succeed in being artsy, throwing it out of focus: as it is, it is very distracting.
  • Also, moving her away from the background will allow you to control the amount of light hitting the wall better.
  • I'd move her off centre.
  • If you want her centred, then shoot in portrait orientation.

Thanks... She hates to pose for the photos, so I just grab the opportunity when I can.
Will try a different crop, though.

I think #1 looks much better although you might brighten her eyes just a bit. In #2 she looks too pale to me. If you get a chance to reshoot I'd ditch the puffy scarf, or arrange it so it's not so prominent (it's larger than her face).
