I think so, I have 3 boys - this pic had 2 girls in it... ;)

So, they did sex changes on two of them and lost one completely. Sounds like a good case for Judge Judy.

Thanks, Jon! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. See post #25.

The thing I have watched grow from none existence in my short lifetime, which I DESPISE, is Black Friday and the fervor over buying cheap Asian electronics.
I am an Atheist, and fully consider the Christmas I grew up with as a Non Religious holiday, one of Humanity, sharing with loved ones and charity for those in need. Even with my lose beliefs, I feel as if the commercialism is getting so much worse so fast.

That said, it doesn't change my approach to Christmas itself.
I hate the music, the ads and the selling of it all, but come Christmas Eve, I love the time with my Family the sharing of gifts, the donations to charity, and the smell of the tree, etc. I block out the noise as much as possible and just have fun.

I'll bet you were short shrifted on Christmas and birthday presents your whole childhood.

My former spouse was born on December 23. She made it very clear that her birthday and Christmas were very separate occasions and presents could not be combined.

I threatened to give her a car for her birthday, but not give her car keys until Christmas.

I feel your wife's pain. Growing up my brother had a birthday in early June, so he always had a big party with lots of friends/family/guests/gifts. My birthday was always an afterthought, where my mom had to remind everyone who was over for Christmas that it was my birthday. Awkward.

Christmas = winter festival, more or less

Festival with Sacrifice so the Sun will come back..

Now a days, it's one of the little lies we teach our kids (santa, tooth fairy, etc) so that later in life they will believe the bigger more important ones.

I convinced my kids that it was in their continued self interest to believe in Santa Claus because I sure as heck could not afford all that stuff.

Jake, how can you be so down on the music what with The Manheim Steamroller and Trans Siberian Orchestra? Do not forget Duck the Halls (external link).

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.

Very well said Roger (no surprise, really).

However...

Can also be said about that which originally inspired Christmas.

But we won't discuss that further since it runs afoul of the the rules set down by our gentle mods.

Christmas is a shortened version of 'Christ's Mass'. But we won't discuss that further since it runs afoul of the rules set down by our gentle mods. :)

OMG! I'm rolling on the floor laughing! A guy could interpret your post as an insult and demeaning to Christians, capitalists and Asians in one post! I guess I should not say 'OMG' but 'OMM' (Oh my me!);) It's called humor folks.

I am a Roman Catholic (convert from the church of what's happenin' now) and fully consider the Christmas I grew up with as a Religious Holiday, celebrating the birth of Christ. Does not matter what day of the year it is celebrated on. Yes, the commercialism is horrible and the true meaning of the day/season can easily be lost amongst the 'buy, buy, buy' taking place. I abhor it also. I enjoy my Asian Canon 5D II and all of it's pretty lenses.

I love the music, hate the ads but love time with family and the smell of the tree. I too block out the commercial noise as much as possible and enjoy the season.

Shalom (from the German Jew side of the family), Yahtahay (from the Cherokee side) and Holy Christmas to you and yours!

I loved Christmas when our sons were little kids. These days, I pretty much ignore the whole thing though I work for a .com company and we're working 6 12 hour shifts, then a day off... rinse and repeat. That factors in, I'm sure.

We are devoid of grandchildren at the moment. I'm sure things will change should one of them show up.
