Just bought the SX50 HS Digital camera....Canon tells me i need to buy the FA-DC67A Adapter required to use 67mm filters. The cANON website shows only three filters...

1) FA-DC67A ADAPTER $ 25.00
2) 67mm PL-CB polarizer $ 390.00
3) 67mm UV PROTECTOR $ 85.00

I also have a Canon AE1 PROGRAM with 52mm. Anyway to use these old filters with this new camera?

So basically, I can not attach any filters to my existing SX50 lens, without buying the adapter FA-DC67A?

I've seen combo filters like a polarizing, UV, and Skylight filter, do they make this, or would i have to buy separate UV, A skylight, or a polarizing filter?

Thanks for any ideas, or where I could buy these filters cheaper than Canon

Instead of Canon's filter adapter, you can get this one from LensMate (external link). It's the one I use with my SX-1. It'll let you use 58 mm filters which are less expensive than 67 mm ones. Both bayonet onto the lens-hood mounts, so they're really not intended to take any very heavy attachments, like tele- or wide-angle adapters. The front of your lens looks like it should take filters screwed directly on, but that's deceptive. What it has are rings, not a threaded band, so if you try to screw a filter on, you'll cut grooves into the plastic there. Eventually, your filters wouldn't stay on.

You don't want to get a combination polarizer-UV or polarizer-skylight filter; a polarizer will cost you over 1 stop of light, and you don't want to be paying that price all the time (especially inside or at night). Besides, a polarizer doesn't always help; it's best used to control reflections from water, glass, or other non-metallic surfaces and to strengthen the blue in clear skies (if it's cloudy or hazy, a polarizer won't do much). However, if you don't intend to get a DSLR, you can save some on your polarizer - the SX50 will work just fine with linear polarizers. Just don't try to skimp too much - get a good brand multicoated filter; B+W MRC, Heliopan or Hoya HD-2 are good.
