I recently bought the Canon SX50 Camera.
before i shot any RAW images with this camera, I installed the DIGITAL PHOTO PROFESSIONAL software that came with the camera onto my computer. I already had several RAW images in a folder, like "CRW_8188.CRW", (that I took with my Canon G6, but this program will not open them up.

I opened another folder of ( what I believe to be) Raw images, but these extensions were .PNG, like "CRW_8702.dng", which did open. too bad I couldn't simply rename the extensions from .crw, to .png, in order to open them up, that would be too easy.

I even took my old G6 CD software and installed it, in order to try to open these CRW files, but they also did not open.

I would hate to have to go out and buy the full Photoshop CS program only to be able to open these raw images up.

Let's get this straight: are you saying that the Canon software Digital Photo Professional that came on the disk with the SX50 will not open Raw files from the SX50?

If so, that's a matter to take up with Canon support/service!

Hi and thanks Tony!
I'm sure using raw images with the SX50 will open just fine, I was trying to open older raw images that I took with my Canon G6.

No, I meant to say that this software that came with my SX50 will not open older CRW images that i took with my G6 Canon. And for some strange reason, my Photoshop CS5's camera raw software can not be updated, so i will try to re-install my photoshop again.

I use photoshop to use to bring in raw images, then edit, then save as a Jpg. Instead of going back and forth with both programs.

Well, your Photoshop CS5 will only open Raw files that are of an "age" that is of the latest update of Camera Raw (somewhere around 2010 or 2012 or a bit later).

For newer cameras, you have the option of either using alternative software or converting the files to the Adobe DNG format.

DPP did not support Gx Raw files until the issue of the G10 when Canon changed their policy regarding the G series cameras. Previously DPP was considered to be for EOS cameras only. For the G9 and earlier Zoombrowser was supplied and contained a slightly different Raw converter. However, if you have PSCS5, its ACR (6.7 was the last version) should certainly support the G6.
