How did you light these? Camera settings? I use the 50mm 1.4 for my portraiture and have a tough time finding enough light. Using flash seems to wash out the glow of the lights as well.

Ok so I did this once and wasn't impressed with the results, the top of the head wasn't getting light.

But then I took a swiffer and wrapped two strands of the lights around the head of the swiffer and put it over my son's head.

This is a 35mm 1.4L lens I just purchased from a user on here. I had it set wide open, 1/60, ISO640

Post processing I added a bit of highlights and darkened the shadows a bit. Some of the pictures the lights made everything a bit too "orange" for my taste so I backed that off to make it as white as I could.

I like the idea with having the extra lights on a pole overhead.

From the few attempts at this that I have made, flash merely washed out the halo effect/glow of the Christmas lights that everyone typically desires in this type of photo. But that has just been my experience. I like the Swiffer trick...pretty swift lol
