Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM

I think the lens struggles a little in low light whereas the 16-35 MKII may be sharper? Anyone have any experience between the two lenses?

I find the 17-40 very sharp, my guess is you shoot mounted on a tripod? I see no need to upgrade unless you're wanting to neutralise 2.8 - stop the 17-40 down and I think you will find it's perfect.

In low light I zoom in using live view and always shoot manual focus to tweak it that little bit..
