I took a whole bunch of shots for this great band's album cover last sunday.
Thought it'd be a nice change to post a "collage". All shot with the 17-40 on my 5D. I didn't realize it would be so great at portraits... Especially when you're "free-shooting" in a strobist environment with backlights & kickers and all... Sharpness was great, colors really popped without much editing and flare resistance was epic. I took a few shots with my 28 1.8 after this and only then noticed how much torture my kicker light was against another lens's flare resistance...

Eitherway:

Those are some great pics. This lens shines when she has enough light!

Thanks :) I agree about the light, it's far from a low light lens, and I used to state that any lens can take great images when you're carefully sculpting light with flashes, but my normally beloved 28 1.8 and 85 1.8 really showed a difference in needing the flashes to be flagged to prevent flare.
For the 17-40 it's literally no problem to have a flash on the other side of the room fire directly into it. Great stuff.

Does anyone have any experience with how the 35L and 24-105 handle flare and glare compared to the 17-40?

Flagging is always a good idea with wide aperture lenses if you;re shooting wide aperture. My 35L flares a bit.

I could quote all of your Iceland shots. Great stuff. Makes me want to go there next. Really nice work.

Nice shoots, mjrod1985!

You should also try when the sky is not totally dark next time.

Nice shots Rayman... Wish I knew how to do Panoramic shots... What software did you use?

Anyways... the 17-40L is quickly becoming my favorite lens along side my favorite 50 1.4...
