With an f/4 lens - are you mad??
It always irks me how people still think you must have an f/2.8 lens for low light, even though camera ISOs have increased by about 3 stops in the past 5 years.

I am considering buying this lens tomorrow, but i have one question to all of you who shoot longexposure shots of landscapes and such with it. How strong ND filters are you using and which filters do you recommend ? they are pretty expensive at 77mm so i can only pick one filter at most.

Thanks in advance.

/ Magnus

It really depends on what effect you want, and what time of the day you are shooting it. I've done water blur with a 2 stop filter, but I was shooting before the sun broke the horizon. Some shots are better with a 10 stop filter, blurring the surface of a lake or ocean for instance.

Alright, yes that's true it depends on the time of day which filter needs to be used. But say a 10 stop filter. Is that too strong or good enough for both daytime and nighttime photography with this lens ?

You can use the 10 stop for both night and day times.

Asking the same question in a different form pretty much will get you the same answer. What is it that you want to do with an ND filter? Honestly it matters. It would be easy enough to give you bad advice based on incomplete information but that wouldnt serve you well. The problem with a 10 stop filter is that you have to compose and focus, then add the filter as its too thick to compose with.

Okay, thanks. Perhaps i formulated my question in a less than intelligent way and i apologize for that. As the 10 stop ND filters here costs atleast 100 euros i have to chose carefully and pick the best possible one.

I will keep thinking about this, my primary purchase first of all is this lens.
