These were taken at Firebird Raceway, Phoenix, AZ, during the National Time Trials.

John Force and Robert Hight, the burst panel on Force's car blew loose but hasn't blown free yet. They are running about 200mph at this point:

Scott Kalitta blew the burst panel free also. Except his got stuck in the injector hat and kept the throttle wide open at the end of the 1/4 mile. He is travling about 200mph at this time. He ended up flying off the track into the soft sand and did extensive damage to the car, he was uninjured.

Great stuff, Kalittas deal could have been real bad and from the looks of it Force got real lucky as well. I see a new NHRA rule change in the books on that one.

Love the pics though good job!

I've always wanted to watch drag racing, you're so lucky. Good pics.

VERY nice shots! You've raised the bar for most of us! :D "Scott Kalitta". Now there's a name that goes WAY back!

Actually Scott is not that old. It's his dad Connie who goes way back to the very early days of drag racing.

And, nice stuff. Looks like a sparse crowd, easy to get a good spot.

The spectator turnout at the time trials is always small. It is easy to wander around and pretty much take pictures from where ever you choose without getting in someones way.
