Now would be the best time to get it going, too. Could sell 2006 calendars still. I'd get one for sure.

I don't think it would be possible for 2006. It would take time to select the photos, get all the copyright agreements in place, make the layout, make arrangements with a printer, have them printed and so on.

Could be a perpetual calendar, then you could get sales all year round

Eh..I'm an idealist.

Oh well. Next year, then!

Does it sound like a good idea, though, Tommy? Is it being discussed on Mt. Olympus yet?

Personally, selling a calender at this time of year is silly. I think a calendar is not a good idea anyway, as there is significant risk in being left with old stock that has no value. It's not like they can be easily made to order either, an investment up front needs to be made, and then there is ordering, storage, payment processing and packing to worry about. I doubt there is any money in it and there is plenty of money to be lost and even more hassle. Selling members images would be an option given set up costs would not be high and everything is sent digitally. I'm sure there are plenty of good images around on members hard drives and the sale price could be pegged v's the commercial competition and so attract commercial buyers if well marketed.

Disagree, look at this link, I think they could be done to order..... with no stock required.

I think the point is not so much about thee images but its a way for people to donate and get something positive/physical in retuen.

A calendar could be a good idea. I did one through http://www.lulu.com (external link) this past year (see my sig). No inventory, but also less profit.

I'd be more than happy to donate images for such an endeavor (or for a book etc.).

I dont know if this is feasable or even if there would be any interest shown with this idea and I will leave it to the forum leaders to formulate a reasonable pricing strategy.

Is it possible to "sell " through the POTN shop increased avatar size ? I know when the mods avatars became larger their was a cry amongst some that they too wanted a bigger one. It might appeal to those who dont contribute to the forum because they would like to see something tangible for their donated money as well as those who would just like a larger avatar.

To allow larger avatars by paying money would be wrong in my opinion. It would only advertise that some people could afford it and some couldn't. It would create a class of have and have nots.

Just my opinion.

Has paid advertisements been tried? Please don't flame me for asking, I'm just trying to help.

There are google ads which are visible for guests and members that have not bought from the POTN shop. I don't know how much they bring in though.

What a about a POTN Book of wisdom/know how/tips? I have only been a member for a week and I have probably learned more than when I started photography a few years. If written published well could generate good profit...and free exposure for POTN...But then I work in publishing...go figure.

How about a small % or fee for sales in "market place". Don't know how that would work but thought of throwing the idea around.
