Thanks, Peter. I'm a little slow at times. Weather is finally starting to turn around and I'm getting to practice a bit with this lens. I'm really enjoying it.

The sun was out today, so I tried the 1.4x again when I got home from work about 17:30. In the brighter light, it had no trouble locking AF; it got probably better than 90% of my attempts. The 2x didn't fare so well; I never got it to lock. I suspect that the 2x might lock AF in bright mid-day sun, though.

The sharpness seemed to hold up fairly well when I manually focused with the 2x, hand held using 5X live view. I'm sure I could get better if it were on a tripod:

The focus point was the small white spot on the bar:

Thanks archer for your test I appreciate it. I am glad it focuses no problem as long as there is enough light. Sounds like I am going to enjoy the kenko 1.4x with this lens. I got a great deal with the TC so I am good either way, I can always throw it to my 300mm F4L if I am not satisfied pairing it with the Tamron.

Great shots.

The bird feeder is definitely with the 2x, manually focused. I think the Mourning dove is with the 1.4x, and I'm not sure about the Titmouse; it might be 1.4x as well.

Awesome. Thanks for letting me know. I am picking up the 1.4x after work. Have a nice weekend.

I thought Florida started sweating mid January and went all the way to mid December before it was safe to go outside?

February was nice when I was there, but by late April or May it was totally obnoxious...
