There is nothing like rainy day to work on PP. I am using Nik Software suite this time around and I think I am getting a lot better at it.

Flickr says is the 150-600, so i guess the ones on 200 F2 are wrong :)

I been following this thread since it started and good to see different opinions. Tamron 150-600MM is a good lens with pro's & con's.. I currently own Tamron 70-300MM VC USD and it's not a super telephoto but does decent job by it's price.

I am more into wildlife photography (specially bird) and looking for a large Telephoto lens with very good IQ and off course like many i refuse to pay 10000 USD for a lens.. (This money is still mean a lot to me so want to spend wisely.) So keeping budget in mind Tamron 150-600MM is a great option but i always wanted Canon 400MM F5.6L prime.. I know Canon is 400MM & Tamron reaches upto 600MM but my greater need is better IQ.

Recently i was going through this review and this is making my mind switch to Canon.

This review clearly saying Canon is still better after cropping equivalent to 600MM of Tamron.

Now the big question is to those who have or used both the lens (Tamron 150-600MM & Canon 400MM F5.6L),

which one is Sharper & better IQ?

(I can't try both the lens and choose a one nor has rental facility in my location.) My friend has Canon 100-400MM L and i would go to Tamron rather than canon 100-400MM L.

Btw i own a basic T3i body and might not upgrade in another 6 months..

Regards.

From what I've used and read (I don't own the 400/5.6, but I have rented it), at 400/5.6, the Canon is slightly better, though it's not a blowout, and is much faster AF'ing. At 150-399 and 401-600, the Tamron is worlds better. The consensus seems to be that for BIF shots, the Canon is going to be significantly better. For static or slower-moving targets, the Tamron is at least as good overall.

Gripped 7D, gripped, full-spectrum modfied T1i (500D), SX50HS, A2E film body, Tamzooka (150-600), Tamron 90mm/2.8 VC (ver 2), Tamron 18-270 VC, Canon FD 100 f/4.0 macro, Canon 24-105 f/4L,Canon EF 200 f/2.8LII, Canon 85 f/1.8, Tamron Adaptall 2 90mmf/2.5 Macro, Tokina 11-16, Canon EX-430 flash, Vivitar DF-383 flash, Astro-Tech AT6RC and Celestron NexStar 102 GT telescopes, various other semi-crappy manual lenses and stuff.

Please remember that you are comparing a prime to a zoom. On any given day prime will have and advantage.
Now the prime in the comparison is 400mm f/5.6 which is the best bang for buck from Canon. It's the sought after birding lens. Most birders will have it or had it before and lot of history data (which is all good) is available.
Tammy is new in the line up and being a zoom there are compromises in terms of size, weight etc.
In a nutshell these two lenses do not compare, but complement each other.
For pure BIF 400mm f/5.6 should be your choice. For mix of BIF, Static shots of wildlife Tammy would be the one..

I bought manfrotto 680B in anticipation of using it with the Tammy when it arrives. Hope it will work well. May be I should get the 234RC as well...

Noth ownin none of the above lenses, yet i can subscribe, PRIME is always better.
it's about ur style, coming from 70-300 zoom, using a 400 prime could be difficult frame BIF.
i used years the 100-400, later i got the 300 2.8, who is so far, of course, amazingly better in sharpness & IQ.
yet i feel more comfy zooming in and out with the cheaper 100-400 :D
