I've clicked on the original on the flickr sight, but it's very pixelated? The colors also don't look natural.

Will you post the RAW? I'd like to see what can be done with it.

Here is the RAW for the Eagle. It's pretty poor lighting/exposure. But I'd be interested to see what others can do with it. I could pump it up more maybe, but the more u process it, the more noise that will show up probably.

I've downloaded and took a look at it. A couple things jump out at me dealing with the noise seen at 100%. First is the exposure compensation is -2/3 and it's under-exposed, so that's going enhance the noise (not in a good way). So that kind of explains to me why we are seeing as much as we are at 800ISO.

Second thing would be the focus point, which is at a tree limb, a good 2 or 3 feet in front of the bird. Actually it might not matter at all because it's shot at F/16. However, you are using the 60D which is APS-C, and diffraction begins, with a 18mpx sensor at F/8.1. Keep in mind f/8.1 is where diffraction starts, and if it's noticeable or not depends on how far away you are viewing the picture at 100%.

DPP and CS6 show this image as being underexposed quite a bit, and considering the noise and diffraction, it's going to be very hard to recover the details and colors. I'm not the best at post processing (TeamSpeed is really good), so I'll leave it to others to "recover" the image as best they can.

Lastly, I think this image would have been sharper at F/8 and with +1 exposure compensated. No diffraction, ISO 200, and still you've been able to bump up the shutter speed X2 or more. I would have loved to see a side by side of the two.

Thanks. Yes I will do some comparison shots with the 400. Maybe tomorrow. But as is the rule when you get a new lens the weather sucks! Its cloudy and very dull outside. But I'd expect no less.

That's why i prefer to pick up a lens.. when the desire hits me, rather than ordering. I get the price-match sorted out, etc. then if it's a nice day.. drive to the store and pick one up.
I never "need" a lens for a specific day, so that helps.

Here was my shot of the same bird; the light while we were out there for these guys was pretty abysmal, so any shots of them are going to be noisy due to the ISOs needed to get reasonable shutter speeds with this slow of an aperture.

No its not considering I have never shot anything at 600 before and the heaviest lens I have ever used was my Canon 100-400L but that was years ago and the 400 is a feather compared to this.

Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah, I do realize it was pretty underexposed. I was rushed, because my girlfriend and the dog were standing there waiting, and I got some people walking up the walkway behind me about to try and get past.

Today I shot in manual or if in aperture priority, I set the exposure comp to 0, or even +. So hopefully my shots are looking better now. I was also able to shoot at ISO 640 or under and get over 1000th a second.

I'll post some new shots in a while!

I still don't think it's too terrible, all things considered. I don't have the RAW available at the moment, but can post it up later if someone wants to look at it.

That looks alot better than mine, probably because of exposure, and maybe focus and Fstop too. Mines cropped quite a bit more however, but I still think this would resolve better.

I can do the crop later, but it's still pretty noisy once that happens. There's just not much you can do when you've gotta roll it to 3200 to get the shot

Thanks for the file to work with Kickflipkid687. I think you can still get a decent crop out of it. It looks like you did have to focus through a branch on the right side but its closer than I've been able to get to a perched Bald Eagle
