Yeah, that branch on the side maybe screwed up the focus.

I got some better lit Eagle shots today, with pretty damn good detail. I need to process em yet,but I just starred the ones I liked so far in lightroom.

Looking forward to today's results with better light. I'm jealous that you got to go out and play :D

That looks alot better than mine, probably because of exposure, and maybe focus and Fstop too. Mines cropped quite a bit more however, but I still think this would resolve better.

So, cropped in more:

I wouldn't really say it resolves any better...ISO was just too high to maintain much detail, IMO. The tradeoff is to lose detail to NR or to noise <shrug>

Here's a good resource you may want to look at. Specifically dealing with the influence of diffraction.

That's a nice link, David...but the shot above was wide open at f/6.3. Diffraction wasn't the problem here; noise, NR and hard cropping are :)

That crop still looks pretty nice.

I was lucky to get some pretty close shots of him today.
I got some flight shots, and also got as close as I could to him in the tree, while in sun and not on the shaded side. One shot was quite sharp it looked like, from like 100+ ft away.
I do feel like atmosphere definately has an effect on sharpness.
Even though it was sunny and clear skies, I could see fog/particles above the water and light shafts coming through.

I got some ok shots from like 200-300ft away. But not super amazing obviously.
I was shooting at like f/9 - f/11 all day and at like ISO 640 to 800.
Really I'm suprised how much noise I get yet at 640 even.
Although I wonder if some of that is particles in the air.
But I know my 60d isn't super amazing at high ISO.

Took mine up to the Colusa and Sacramento NWR's today to see how this glass worked on my 5d3. I wouldn't trade my 400 5.6 for it, as the auto focus is quite a bit slower, but sill, I got some pretty decent results.

Interesting as it seems to be a lot of stationary subjects apart from the flying Bald Eagle. However, is it safe to say that the focus isn't very quick? I guess it's not going to be a very good BIF lens? Unless the bird is huge of course and a slow flyer.

My trials with the moon. The moon came out well this evening, but was low and pollution is high (hence the yellow; kept because that's what it looked like<shrug>;).

These were all shot from a tripod, with remote, AF through Live View and IS/VC off.

To me, at least, it seems to hold up quite well. I'll have to try again, later, when it's up a bit higher and the atmosphere isn't clogged with crap.

EDIT: One note I feel I should include here given the similarity in the results; the Tamron results in a significantly larger file, with much more data, for printing and such (3757x2505 [T] vs 2481x1654 [C] in the f/8 shots).
